The specialist in blood bank (SBB) certificate and master&,#146,s in clinical laboratory management programs have been developed to meet the needs of experienced professionals seeking advanced knowledge of immunohematology and its related disciplines. Students enrolled in the SBB program may additionally choose to complete the MS in clinical laboratory management option.

The specialist in blood banking (SBB) certificate with master&,#146,s in clinical laboratory management option is designed to prepare students for the SBB certification examination and Diplomat in Laboratory Management (DLM) offered by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification. NOTE: Eligibility for the DLM(ASCP) examination category includes at least two years of full-time acceptable experience in clinical laboratory supervision or management in the United States, Canada or a CAP/TJC/AABB-accredited laboratory within the last 10 years.

Students successfully completing this program will be prepared to assume positions in administration, management/supervision, clinical reasearch or teaching in a hospital, blood center, university, governmental agency or health care-related industry.

Policy for Transfer of SBB Coursework: All students who received SBB training from an accredited program outside of Rush University may be awarded up to 20 quarter hours for their equivalent course work through successful completion of a departmental evaluation. Minimum Hours taken at Rush for the MS degree must equal at least 45 quarter hours.
