Description:

Herzing College has developed a practical method of training that reflects real-world conditions, ensuring a smooth transition to the workforce. As a beginner surrounded by more advanced students you will quickly progress until becoming a mentor yourself for new students in the group. This program balances theoretical and practical instruction before providing the opportunity to gain on-the-job experience at a relevant internship position.

Over the course of six sessions, students will learn the fundamentals of early childhood psychology, child safety and risk management, behavioral intervention strategies, social-emotional development, educational activities and much more. The final internship integrates the accumulated skills and knowledge during 35 days in a regulated child care environment.

Program Objectives

This program develops the following skills sought by employers:
Communication and organization skills to design, organize and facilitate activities that develop children&,#146,s intellectual, physical and emotional capabilities
Analytical skills, observing the behaviour and interaction of children to identify their needs in relation to overall development
Resourcefulness to manage potential conflicts and intervene in group play when appropriate
The ability to observe and assist children with emotional or developmental problems, working with specialists if necessary
