Flight Instructor Rating (Certificate)

The Flight Instructor Program is usually conducted on both Cessna 152s and Cessna 172s. The minimum Ground School required by Transport Canada is 25 hrs, but GFT offers a 70-hour comprehensive course to maintain a high caliber graduate. There is a great demand on the student during this course to work both independently and as a part of a team.

Instructor courses at White Waltham use the PA28-161 Warrior, a comfortable aircraft with good performance. Should you undertake an FI course at White Waltham, your instructor will spend each day totally with you. It is therefore possible to complete the course in a short time, normally within four to five weeks. The full course consists of 30hrs flying and 125 hours ground school.

Rates include all ground training, fuel, VAT and home landing fees. Ground school includes some self-study. The rates are based on weekday training but courses can be arranged for weekends or in a suitable privately owned aircraft. We can also offer Class Rating Instructor training, please contact Operations for prices.

The Class Rating Instructor (CRI) course requires 30 hours ground school and 3 hours flying in 3 different types of aircraft.

CERTIFIED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR

A flight instructor serves to enhance or evaluate the knowledge and skill level of an aviator in pursuit of a higher pilot&,#146,s license, certificate or rating. Students will complete a minimum of 70 hours in our Teaching Assistant course, 30 hours in our Flight Observation Course, and will perfect their knowledge of aviation to pass it on to others.


Flight Training Includes:
Practice of all flight maneuvers from the co-pilot seat: slow flight, steep turns, stalls, ground references maneuvers, and take offs and landings, and effective pre/post flight instruction


Ground Training Includes:
The preparation of lesson plans and teaching students with varying background and skills, evaluation of individual student flight programs, effective pre/post flight instruction, analysis and correction of student pilot errors, flight instructor responsibilities and certifying procedures.

ADVANCED GROUND INSTRUCTOR (Certificate)

An advanced ground instructor certificate can provide the required knowledge training for any certificate issued under part 61. That means, private, commercial, airline transport pilot, etc.

A ground instructor certificate does not require you to be a pilot or to have any other pilot experience (although it helps). If you are a pilot, a ground instructor certificate is a completely separate certificate. It will even be separate from your flight instructor certificate. A ground instructor certificate has no expiration although you can’t instruct unless within the preceding 12 months you have served as a ground instructor for 3 months or you receive an endorsement from another ground instructor or CFI that you are proficient (14 CFR 61.217).

In order to become a ground instructor you have to take the FOI (fundamentals of instruction) written test and the appropriate knowledge test either BGI, IGI, or AGI. No oral exam is required!

A basic ground instructor can provide the required knowledge training for a sport pilot, recreational or private pilot. You can also accomplish the knowledge portion of the flight review test and recommend someone to take the knowledge tests (written) for one of those certificates.

Aircraft Flight Technology (Certificate)
