Shiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork. The term comes from the Japanese words &,quot, shi&,quot, and &,quot, atsu,&,quot, meaning &,quot, finger&,quot, and &,quot, pressure&,quot,. Similar to acupressure and acupuncture, Shiatsu concentrates on unblocking the flow of life energy (&,quot,Qi&,quot,) and restoring balance in the body in order to promote self-healing.

Shiatsu therapists apply comfortable, sustained pressure to acu-points and areas of muscle tension. Therapists may utilize their fingers, palms, elbows or knees to apply this pressure to their clients, who are typically fully clothed in a reclining position.

Shiatsu massage treats common psychological and physical complaints such as depression, anxiety, nausea, stiffness, headaches, arthritis, cramps, or pulled muscles. Traditionally, Shiatsu involves deep breathing, rotation and stretching of the joints, and stimulation of pressure points. Shiatsu acts to reduce pain, stimulate the immune system, Qi, blood and lymphatic flow, and generate a deep sense of harmony an... [Read More]

The Shiatsu Practitioner applies firm rhythmic pressure on the body making us of the thumbs or fingers on a series of points that awaken the meridians. Shiatsu basically uses the entire body and also combines stretching and leverage.

Stagnation of body flow along the nerves, meridians, lymphatic ducts and blood vessels, is often seen as what we call tension. There are various causes of this stagnation, including lack of exercise, poor diet, alcohol, drugs and stress. Due to these physical tensions or blocked emotions the homeostatic mechanism of the body gets locked and hampers the proper functioning of the body.

These blockages or distortions can lead to either an overflow of energy, "Jitsu" (excess) or an underactive condition called as "Kyo" (empty). "Tsubos", also known as pressure points, are basically the reflections of the internal functioning of the body systems. These pressure points can also be used for diagnostic and treatment purposes.

The treatment that is explained in this online training course enables the... [Read More]

Shiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork that incorporates anma (Japanese traditional massage), acupressure, stretching, and Western massage. Acupressure is a form of alternative touch therapy that utilizes the principles of acupuncture and Chinese medicine. In acupressure, the same points on the body are used as in acupuncture, but are stimulated with finger pressure. Instead of the insertion of needles, acupressure is used to relieve a variety of symptoms and pain.
