Instrument Meteorological Conditions Rating

Course Format: Public Course / Instructor-Led / Open Enrollment
School/Trainer: West London Aero Club
Training Center(s)/Venue(s): London, United Kingdom
  V

The Instrument Meteorological Conditions rating enables the holder to fly in cloud or conditions of bad visibility both inside and outside controlled airspace, with very few restrictions on airfield or en-route weather.

It is therefore a most useful addition to a pilot’s skills, giving flexibility for planning interesting trips.

The minimum requirements laid down by the CAA for the IMC Rating are:
?5 hours training on instrument flying (of which, 2 hours can be on a simulator).
■Pass the Flight Test.
■Ground instruction to pass the written paper.
?0 hours as Pilot in command since gaining a PPL (five of these hours must be cross-country).

We carry out the flying training on well-equipped Piper PA28 Warrior aircraft or a Cessna 172SP. All training is done on a one-to-one basis following both the CAA approved AOPA syllabus and our own thorough training programme.

INSTRUMENT GROUND INSTRUCTOR (Certificate)

Course Format: Public Course / Instructor-Led / Open Enrollment
School/Trainer: American Winds Flight Academy
Training Center(s)/Venue(s): Akron, United States
  V

An instrument ground instructor is able to provide the required knowledge training for a pilot applicant seeking an instrument rating. Similarly to the BGI, you are also able to recommend someone for the instrument written exam.

A ground instructor certificate does not require you to be a pilot or to have any other pilot experience (although it helps). If you are a pilot, a ground instructor certificate is a completely separate certificate. It will even be separate from your flight instructor certificate. A ground instructor certificate has no expiration although you can’t instruct unless within the preceding 12 months you have served as a ground instructor for 3 months or you receive an endorsement from another ground instructor or CFI that you are proficient (14 CFR 61.217).

In order to become a ground instructor you have to take the FOI (fundamentals of instruction) written test and the appropriate knowledge test either BGI, IGI, or AGI. No oral exam is required!

1. To be eligible for a ground instructor ce... [Read More]
