This MSc builds on the sport and exercise science expertise gained through your Bachelors degree. You further develop your critical and analytical approach to the sport and exercise sciences, and you gain a knowledge and understanding of the nature of the sport sciences and the critical and evaluative skills necessary to assess performance in clinical as well as athletic populations.

Programme content
The programme aims to advance your knowledge in the core cognate areas of sport and exercise science while allowing you to specialise in exercise physiology, biomechanics or psychology in greater depth.

Coaching Studies (Master Degree)

This non- thesis option degree provides you with a program of studies with a particular focus on coaching science. This is a summer-based program and is largely course-based. Twelve units of required courses are completed during July /August over two consecutive summers. An additional three units of elective courses must be completed and may be taken off campus. You also complete two four-month cooperative work terms, a comprehensive exam and a project. It is also possible to complete some of the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) level 4/5 tasks during the MEd CS program, which is coordinated through the National Coaching Institute British Columbia (NCI). The program length is usually two years inclusive of two four-month cooperative education work terms.

In the specialist units you will cover areas of sport such as how the body responds and adapts to exercise; psychology; nutrition; fitness testing; sports injuries and more.

Physiology of Exercise

A study of principles of physiology as they apply to human movement.
