Food and Wine Pairing

This class will be an introduction to Food and Wine Pairing. The student will learn the
elementary elements of the character and key components of wines. The course will discuss
the five primary taste sensations present in every food: salty, sweet, sour, bitter and savory and
how these effect the taste of wines.

At the end of the course the student will:

Wine Appreciation

At the end of the course the student will:
-Summarize the history of wine from pre-history to the modern day.
-Explain the role of wine in western religion.
-Identify key elements of modern wine consumption and explain their origins.
-Discuss a modern wine region of the world in depth.
-Compare different cultural attitudes toward wine.
-Choose wines that are representative of each wine culture.
-Evaluate chemical and sensory components of wine.
-Score wines according to standard sensory evaluation methods.


Wine Marketing and Sales

Introduction to wine marketing and sales methods, basic approaches to packaging, advertising,
promotion, retail and wholesale selling of wine.

At the end of the course the student will:
-Prepare sales calls and interviews
-Create package design
-Choose appropriate advertising techniques
-Design marketing strategies and selling programs
-Develop a basic wine marketing and sales program


Introduction to the theory of grape growing, including botany and anatomy, history and
distribution, propagation, varieties and wine type, climate, production practices, and common
diseases and pests

2. Demonstrate knowledge of grape production on a worldwide basis.

Pipe (SMAW/GTAW) Shielded Metal/GasTungsten Arc Welding

Students will learn more advance configurations and position for welding with the E 7018 Shielded Metal Arc Welding process as well as combining Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) on pipe including vertical and overhead. This course will prepare students for AWS pipe certification testing procedure as well as cutting and beveling pipe with oxy fuel and hand tools.

Both lecture and laboratory exercises which involve the practical transfer of blueprint information onto metal using a variety of techniques. Applications of geometric shape constructions and divisions in the shop environment are covered.
