The Certified Nursing Assistant is the foundation or basis of nursing care. In addition, program completion and certification opens doors to many opportunities in the field of healthcare. CNA&,#146,s are taught to work in long-term care and to assist in the activities of daily living. These basic care skills ensure quality of life for residents in facilities, homes, and hospitals.

The class consists of 60 hours of classroom/lab instruction and 40 hours clinical hands-on care. Experienced instructors will guide you through classroom lectures, lab practice sessions and the clinical rotation.

CNA duties include: bathing, grooming, feeding patients who are unable to feed themselves, and taking and recording vital signs. In addition, using good communication skills, the nurse assistant observes and reports the patient&,#146,s physical, mental and emotional conditions.

Veterinary Assisting

Certified Nursing Assistants work under the supervision of an RN or LPN. They assist with daily living functions which include helping patients with eating, dressing, bathing, personal grooming and toileting. They are responsible for taking a patient&,#146,s temperature, pulse rate, respiration rate, and blood pressure. Students are required to take 100 hours of lecture/lab and 40 hours of clinical experience in order to successfully complete the course and be able to sit for the State exam.

A dental assistant performs duties such as preparing instruments and materials required to treat patients, obtaining and updating patients�dental records, working with the dentist during dental procedures and instructing patients on postoperative and general oral health care. A dental assistant may prepare materials for impressions and restorations and process dental X-rays.

Training consists of a single noncredit course that is typically held each term, along with a career development course to get students ready for employment. Students learn the basic skills necessary to work as an entry-level dental assistant. Students will review dental anatomy, terminology, restorative materials, infection control and chair-side techniques. The course also prepares students for the Dental Assisting National Board’s Radiology Certification Examination and is approved by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Total Hours: 90
