Human Factors in Aviation Maintenance Workshop

The technological advances in aviation in the past few decades are astounding, and require pilots in today&,#146,s industry to have technical system training. This course responds to that need. Some of the navigation and avionics systems covered in this seminar include Global Positioning Systems (GPS), Weather Radar, Electronic Flight Information Systems (EFIS), and Traffic Collision Avoidance Systems (TCAS).

Instrument Rating (Certificate)

Most airline companies operate aircraft in operations that require the Instrument Rating. This rating enables pilots to fly aircraft in poor weather conditions where instrument reference is required. GFT offers a Recurrent Instrument Training Program for those pilots that require renewal or have let their instrument rating lapse. A Professional Training Program is available for initial candidates, as well as an accelerated program designed for a quicker pace. This Rating is also part of the GFT integrated Program.

Course Contents and Requirements

The most common type of instrument rating acquired is a Group 1 Instrument Rating, which simply means the flight test is conducted on a multi-engine aircraft and the candidate can fly a multi-engine aircraft. The graduate can then fly a multi-engine aircraft in instrument conditions. There are 3 different Instrument Training Programs, in addition to the integrated program, designed to meet the specific needs of each candidate. Each course utilizes the Cessna 172, PA44-180 Piper Seminole, and our PFC MFD Full Cockpit Flight Simulator.

Dual Flight Time: 10 hrs

Skiplane Rating (Certificate)

Expand your flying ability and employability by gaining experience in a ski-plane. GFT plans to begin Ski-plane training this winter, offering the option of using the Cessna 150.

Prerequisites

Minimum Age: 17 years old
Aviation Medical: Category 3 or higher
Aviation Licence: Private Pilot Licence or higher

The Ski-plane training will be conducted on the Cessna 150. Contact GFT for more details.

Dual Flight Time: 5 hrs (10 hrs advanced)
Ground School: 2 hrs
Flight Test: Not Required
Written Examinations: Not Required

Multi-Engine Rating (Certificate)

Course Format: On-site
School/Trainer: Gander Flight Training

The Multi-Engine Rating will allow you to fly an aircraft with two or more engines. This Rating is part of the Integrated program, and may be combined with the modular Commercial Pilot Licence. The Multi-Engine Rating is required for most aviation careers.

Prerequisites

Minimum Age: 17 years old
Aviation Medical: Category 3 or higher
Aviation Licence : Private Pilot Licence

Course Contents and Requirements

There is no minimum flight time or ground school required by Transport Canada for the Multi-Engine Rating. The candidate is required to meet the prescribed standards on a Multi-Engine flight test which includes both ground and air components. GFT uses the PA44-180 Piper Seminole for this training.

Dual Flight Time: 8.8 hrs
Solo Flight Time: 1.2 hrs
Preparatory Ground Instruction: 2.0 hrs (one-on-one instruction)
Ground School: 12 hrs
Flight Test: Completed by qualified TC Approved Examiner
Written Examinations: Not required

Seaplane Endorsement (Certificate)

Every pilot should experience the enjoyment of seaplane flying. It expands your flying ability and employability, while providing an incredible adventure that will not soon be forgotten. GFT offers a 7.0 hour seaplane endorsement on the Cessna 172.

Advanced training consists of 43 hours total time, to be conducted following completion of the 7.0 hours for the Seaplane Endorsement. This course focuses on improving the skills and introducing andvanced training that will best prepare you for employment as a seaplane pilot using the Cessna 172.

Course Contents and Requirements

The Seaplane Endorsement is usually conducted on the Cessna 172, which has been upgraded with a STOL Kit (Short Takeoff and Landing) and a 180 HP engine. Once adequate skills are attained, students may decide to gain some flight experience by continuing on with the additional 43 hours of flight time.

Dual Flight Time: 6.5 hrs
Solo Flight Time: 0.5 hrs
Ground School: 5 hrs
Flight Test: Not Required
Written Examinations: Not Required
