Night & VFR OTT Rating (Certificate)

The Night Rating allows the pilot to fly at night in visual weather conditions. The VFR Over-The-Top Rating allows the pilot to fly over the top of a layer of cloud (without visual reference to the ground) as long as prescribed weather criteria are met.

Both Ratings are included with the Commercial Pilot Licence. However, the Private Pilot may decide to add these ratings to expand licence privileges.

The Night Rating may be completed in approximately one week and is usually conducted on either the Cessna 152 or Cessna 172.

Recreational Pilot Permit (Certificate)

The Recreational Pilot Permit (RPP) is the most economical means for someone to enjoy the thrills of flying for receational purposes.

If purchasing an aircraft for recreation is in your future, this permit is a quick and easy way to get started. It can also be used as a step to becoming a Private Pilot.

A Seaplane Rating may also be added to the RPP.

Course Contents and Requirements

Most candidates for the RPP will follow a schedule that best suits their own needs. Students may choose which single-engine aircraft to train on, though most will use the Cessna 152. Ground School is not required, but students may follow a supervised self-study program or attend a Private Pilot Ground School. The hours listed below reflect the Transport Canada minimums. Additional hours may be required to meet prescribed standards.

Summer Wings

GFT Aerospace College has the program for you. Our Summer Wings Camp will give you the exposure to know if becoming a pilot is in your future. This two week summer flight program is jam-packed with excitement and activities that will give you lots to talk about as you head back to school in the fall. This program introduces the exciting world of aviation through classroom and flight training, aviation-related tours and activities. All training completed may be credited towards future aviation licences.

Course Contents and Requirements

The Summer Wings program is an introduction to becoming a pilot, using the Cessna 152. The flight and ground syllabus brings the level of knowledge and skill close to the first solo flight (without the instructor). Those who qualify may extend training to actually complete the first solo flight.
