When/How

These two venues can be used all year round. Blue Rock lake is perfect for the absolute beginner and the overnight trip. Gippsland Lakes has some open water paddling and is therefore more suitable for older age groups (years 11 and 12) and for multi days trips.

When/How

Both Rivers rely on rainfall. The best time for paddling is from May to December. Day trips are run on the Thomson River and both trips can cater for a two to three day trip. With any white water paddling, it is recommended that there is some basic skill sessions conducted on the lead up to the trip. The paddling is conducted on grade 1 and 2 rapids which are perfect for introductory level paddling.

These clinics are held on the Grand River at the scenic Elora Gorge. An introduction to paddling basics and safety, you will learn all the strokes, braces, and paddling techniques used in whitewater. In addition, time will be spent &,quot,reading the rapids&,quot,, increasing your whitewater and overall awareness of the river. Let Equinox Adventures help you realize and improve your paddling abilities as we safely play in the exciting rapids of &,quot,The Gorge.&,quot, Camping is available nearby as are many fine restaurants. This non - instructional club was created to provide kayakers and solo canoers a way to progress their skills, meet new people and become apart of the paddling community. We&,#146,ll meet once a week at the Outdoor Center, and from May to early winter, we&,#146,ll head out to different sections of rivers. Over winter we&,#146,ll use open pool sessions, at the U of C pool. Annual membership includes 30% discount on paddling gear rentals on club nights and 10% discounts on paddling courses.

Canoes have a long and rich history in the culture of Aboriginal peoples and early European explorers across Canada. Canoeing remains one of the most popular water-based outdoor recreation activities in Canada, and is having a modern resurgence among coastal First Nations. Though coastal canoeing currently has a limited presence in the Adventure Tourism market on the west coast of BC, it is nevertheless an important activity at cultural events, summer camps, outdoor education centres, and correctional institutes. The course is taught to meet the Advanced Tandem Paddling (Basic Flatwater 3) and Basic Solo Paddler 2 standards of the Recreational Canoeing Association of BC (RCABC). This course provides a foundation for the RCABC Coastal Canoeing and Flatwater Instructor courses.

Moving Water Canoeing

This introduction to Moving Water Tandem Canoeing course introduces the canoeist to paddling in current. Emphasis is placed on understanding the principles of moving water, boat control, and safety while having fun. Paddling skills covered include strokes (draws, prys, and braces), manoeuvres (eddy turns, running side slip, ferries, S-turns, and attainments), portaging, river reading, and communication. Participants gain knowledge in river running, trip planning, safety and rescue procedures. The course progresses into Class I moving water after demonstrated competency and confidence on the lake. Participants can choose to obtain their Introduction to Moving Water Tandem Canoeing certification (Paddle Canada).
Previous canoeing experience is beneficial but not required. Includes equipment. Dress weather appropriate &, bring a change of dry clothes.

Flatwater Canoe Instructor (Certificate)

This intensive course runs until early September and introduces
basic canoeing skills, enabling students to pursue canoeing
safely in the future. Students learn how to increase their
awareness of nature by identifying medicinal and edible plants
and trees and searching for the presence of wildlife. Canoeing
day trips take place at Lake Tamaracouta and at Parc de la
Rivière‐des‐Mille‐Îles. Students should be comfortable in deep
water and wear a lifejacket. The fee covers all expenses,
including boat rental and transportation to the venues.

Take your journey deep into some of the oldest mountains in the world, where North Carolina Outward Bound School was founded. For nearly 50 years, NCOBS has delivered wilderness courses among the highest mountains east of the Mississippi, in the Pisgah and Nantahala National Forests.

While exploring this unique mountain forest, its thick mountain laurel and rhododendron, cool mountain streams and unique rock formations, participants will acquire many skills. This whitewater canoeing focused course teaches participants to read the water, scout rapids, and coordinate paddle strokes as they work together to paddle through churning river rapids. Participants will develop teamwork, leadership and confidence while working together with their group to meet daily goals.

In addition to being put to the test physically, participants will build communication and leadership skills, confidence, initiative and teamwork that will leave them with a newfound strength that can easily be applied to everyday obstacles. No prior experience is necessary.
