AMGA Single Pitch Instructor (Certificate)

Course Format: On-site
School/Trainer: HighXposure Adventures Inc.
Training Center(s)/Venue(s): Gardiner, United States
  V

The Single Pitch Instructor (SPI) Program teaches climbing instructors to proficiently facilitate and instruct the sport of rock climbing in a single pitch setting. The SPI is the only internationally recognized single pitch climbing instructor certification program in the United States. It was developed to fit in the AMGA Rock program. Benefits:

It significantly improves the instructor’s skill sets and integrates into the next level of training, the AMGA Rock Instructor Course.
The program is for current, active rock climbers who have a real desire to teach rock climbing to novices in a single pitch setting.
The SPI Course is a 27-hour training course that normally runs as three consecutive nine-hour days or day classes with evening sessions.
The SPI Assessment is a minimum of 16 hours run over a two-day period.
Certification lasts for three years as long as the candidate keeps current AMGA Membership and First Aid Certification.
After three years current SPI’s can re-take the SPI Assessment to regain the SPI certification.
Taking any higher level AMGA Course also recertifies the SPI certification for another three years.

Learn to Lead

Course Format: On-site
School/Trainer: HighXposure Adventures Inc.
Training Center(s)/Venue(s): Gardiner, United States
  V

This advanced course is created for experienced climbers who want to bring their skills to the next level

The increasing popularity and year-round availability of indoor climbing gyms has enabled many climbers to develop their skills and make progress more rapidly than might otherwise have been possible. Often climbers are able to venture onto the indoor &,quot,clip-and-go&,quot, lead walls without much leading background.

For these climbers, making the transition to real rock presents a high potential for discovering significant problems. Most climbing areas in the Northeast are not bolt-equipped. Thus the need for learning how to place secure and reliable protection and anchor systems becomes critical.

The key here is getting &,quot, feedback&,quot, about the quality of your gear placements. Since you may be capable of leading moderate routes without falling, the opportunity for &,quot, testing&,quot, the reliability of your gear is limited. Short of loading the gear with the force of a fall by &,quot, jumping off,&,quot, obtaining an accurate assessment of your protection-placing skills is hard to come by.

Here you&,#146,ll get to draw upon all the information you&,#146,ve learned, making your own decisions and best judgment as you go. Though always secured by a rope from above, you&,#146,ll have the opportunity to put it all together on your own.

While our primary focus is always instructional, enabling you to make the effort to improve and see tangible progressive results, more experienced climbers frequently express an interest in specific routes. These are climbs th... [Read More]
