In this groundbreaking MA program, students engage with the evolving field of fashion studies. Using an interdisciplinary approach, they explore fashion as object, image, text, practice, theory, and concept and develop a critical understanding of fashion and its complex global intersections with identities, histories, and cultures in the contemporary world.

Recognizing the growing significance of fashion, MA Fashion Studies offers a new academic route to advance the research and analysis of fashion as a cultural phenomenon. This 42-credit program, which can be completed full or part-time, will be of particular interest to students with degrees in the humanities and social sciences as well as students with art, design, and fashion industry backgrounds who want to gain a deeper understanding of fashion and its scholarship. The program provides an entryway for students who want to pursue careers in fashion research, including fashion archives, museums, and galleries, media and consulting, as well as teaching and academia. MA Fashion Studies also prepares students for advanced research in fashion leading to a PhD.

The MFA Fashion Design and Society at Parsons The New School for Design is the first graduate program of its kind in the United States. Both interdisciplinary and international in scope, this academy for advanced studies in fashion design will train a small cadre of world-class designers to have a global understanding of fashion. Innovative and progressive, Fashion Design and Society will offer students the opportunity to make substantive contributions—both professional and conceptual—to the field of fashion design.

Textiles for Fashion

The Editorial/Fashion Photography Emphasis is created by a structured series of courses in Fine Arts where students learn how to create images for use in print and online publications. Working in the spacious Lighting Studio, which features a permanent green screen, and well-equipped Photography Lab, student photographers have access to state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. Students work with live models and props in the studio or travel to sites around Southern California to shoot on location.
