This course teaches hair styling for photo shoots, television, commercials, video, runway, and bridal work. It is a definite advantage as a makeup artist to be able to style hair also, giving you greater versatility. In this industry you are more marketable being able to do hair and makeup, rather than one or the other.

We teach you how to work with different face shapes and hair textures, appliances and products. The course covers styling techniques from basic, to more elaborate creations. The hair course may be combined with the makeup course to become a full time program or may be taken individually. The course runs Mondays and Tuesdays over 8 weeks. This course includes one photo shoot with a professional photographer.

The Cosmetology/Hairstyling course is a 44 week program starting on the first Monday of each month. It covers 1600 hours of training. The course of study includes 1480 hours of classroom education and hands-on training. Each morning for the first hour and a half, students are in theory class. For the remainder of the day each student works on clients or mannequins. The hands on training includes cutting, styling, coloring, highlighting, foiling, perming and so on. The Academy has a large video library and often brings in guest speakers for Product Knowledge, Professional Image, Financial Planning, Color technicians, Salon Managers and Cruise Line Recruiters just to name a few.

The Academy is open to the public for hands on training and has a huge clientele which can typically provide each student with 250 or more real people to perform services on. 500 hours of Post-Graduate School Training which includes: all subjects in the basic cosmetology curriculum including theory and practice. Presentation of material must include the concepts which are intended to be taught and the skills to be acquired during the various phases of basic education.
2.20 hours of Educational Psychology which shall include, but not be limited to, topics in educational objectives, student characteristics and development, the learning process, and an evaluation of learning which relates to teaching.

20 hours of Teaching Methods (Theory) which shall include, but not be limited to, topics in individual differences in learning, lesson planning and design, lesson delivery, assessment of learning performance, classroom management, student motivation, and classroom climate.

This program is divided into three levels and is 10 months in length. The first two levels of this program are designed to cover all core aspects of the industry on a progressive scale, demanding an increase in competence at each level. The final level is specifically designed for the student to complete their chosen course of study.

Theoretical knowledge and practical training are covered in such areas as client relations, men&,#146,s and ladies hair cutting, permanent waving, shaving, hair colouring, hair and scalp treatments, facials and manicures, and disorders of the scalp and skin. Salon management, bookkeeping, reception and desk functions, and business services are also an integral part of this program. Upon successful completion of the program, students receive work-based hours of training credit towards an apprenticeship and are eligible to write the ITA exam.

Students who complete both the full-time hair design program and full-time skin and body therapy program are eligible to receive a cosmetology diploma.
