Critical Care Transport Paramedic (Certificate)

This course exposes students to the treatment and transport of the critically ill patient. Topics include medical/legal issues, pharmacology, clinical lab values, advanced level respiratory care, and advanced cardiac care to include balloon pumps and hemodynamic line monitoring. Following the completion of the classroom portion of this program, students will be required to sit for a written certification exam and 24 hours of critical care area clinical exposure. Students who successfully complete all portions of the training will receive a course completion certificate from Greenville Technical College and Critical Care Paramedic Certificate issued by the University of Iowa.

Program Policy

In order to maintain eligibility in the program, students must attain an average of &,quot,C&,quot, or better in all EMC-courses. Students who fail any course must repeat the entire program. Students who have been academically dismissed must attain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 or better in order to re-enter the Paramedic Program.

The Paramedic Certification Program is a 34- to 42-semester hour program that prepares you to provide advanced pre-hospital care to emergency patients. The Program is full-time and lasts approximately six and a half months after EMT training and anatomy and physiology classes. Because the course is very compact, we strongly encourage students not to work during the Program.

We hold classes Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the basement of the Chase Bank building at the Paul M. Bass Administrative and Clinical Center, 6300 Harry Hines Blvd., on UT Southwestern’s North Campus. Hospital rotations take place at Parkland Memorial Hospital, 5201 Harry Hines Boulevard, and other area hospitals.

Clinical rotation shifts, some of which occur on weekends, may include shifts from 6:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., 2:45 p.m. to 11:15 p.m., and 10:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m. You’ll also need to be available for ambulance field internships on a 24-hour on, 48-hour off basis. These shifts begin and end at 7 a.m.
